SRT Validator
Check an SRT subtitle file for timestamp errors, overlapping cues, empty dialogue and line-length issues. Runs entirely in your browser.
Local processing only. Your file is validated on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Input SRT
What this validator checks
- Structural: each cue block has a timestamp line and dialogue lines.
- Timing: end time is after start time; no negative timestamps.
- Overlaps: a cue that starts more than 10ms before the previous cue ends.
- Duration: cues shorter than 500ms (too fast to read) or longer than 10s (too long).
- Empty dialogue: cues with no text after removing HTML tags.
- Line length: dialogue lines over 42 characters (informational).
How to interpret results
Errors usually indicate a broken file. Warnings are worth reviewing but may be intentional. Info items are readability tips, not defects.
Supported input formats
Standard SubRip (.srt). Period-separated milliseconds are tolerated.
Limitations
- Encoding is not detected — the file is read as UTF-8.
- Semantic content is not checked. Cues are validated by structure and timing only.
- Position markers and style tags are passed through without validation.
